Such units remain central to many fields.
1. On a cricket field, 1 chain is the distance between the stumps.
(Ashes to ashes, dust to dust.)
2. On fields being ploughed, 1 chain multiplied by 1 furlong (1 furrow
long) is of course 1 acre. (22 yards * 220 yards = 4840 square yards.)
