that it can... See the functions "read.dta" and "write.dta"...

What does R do? I thought it could import SAS or Stata files, but I
don't know if it preserves labeling. Also, the price of the
program is
right, but there is a cost in learning it. I've tried many times...

If you have SAS 9.2 available, it will import files from Stata v10,
and
preserve labels. I thought SAS had bought dbms copy to kill it,
but it
seems that SAS has incorporated parts of it, even though it does not
support the stand-alone dbms copy very well.
SPSS reads and writes both Stata and SAS files, preserving labels.

To convert SAS data sets to Stata datasets, I personally use
Stat/Transfer, whose website is at

a DOS command. The -stcmd- package can call Stat/Transfer from within
Stata, and can be downloaded from SSC using the -ssc- command.
However,
Ben (or somebody) would have to find the money to pay for Stat/
Transfer.
I hope this helps.

I know that fdause cannot read SAS labels.
Is there any other way to
transform SAS data into Stata data while preserving labels? I
have an
older version of DBMS copy that I could use if necessary.
thanks,
Ben
