Re: st: counting replacements?
I have complained about this same thing at the last couple of NASUG meetings and
the Stata folks said they will look into it, but didn't like the options of
putting the result in s() or c() like I suggested -- clearly r() could cause
problems. It just seems that if it shows up on the screen, it should be
accessible.
Instead, I often need to add a count command like you did, which becomes an
execution time concern when dealing with large datasets (1 million records).

<snip>
. sysuse auto
. replace price=-3 if foreign==1
(22 real changes made)
Is there a way to access this 22 value? It seems
uncharacteristic of Stata to provide data in the
output that is not available as a return value.
