st: variable names from another dataset

Does anyone know, is it possible to get the variable names of another 
dataset without loading it?

Presently, I do this...
use otherfile
unab othervars : *

use mymainfile
[ code referencing othervars ]
...

But can I avoid -use-ing otherfile?
