Which version of Stata?

I use Stata 9.1. But, I looked at my old Statas, and the force
option has been around at least since Stata 7. It is only for the
exe file. The help for -update- says
"force is used with update executable to force downloading a new
executable even if, based on the date comparison, Stata does not
think it is necessary. There is seldom a reason to specify this
option. There is no such option for update ado because, if you
wanted to force the reinstallation of all ado-file updates, you would
need only to erase the UPDATES directory. You can type sysdir list
to see where the UPDATES directory is on your computer; see sysdir."
I'm just puzzled why Stata said the executable was up to date. Maybe
there is a temporary glitch in the Stata servers?
