Agreed.  This is probably a bug in -bfit-.  Doing a trace may expose which -st_local()- call is at fault, but fixing it will probably require communication with the authors of-bfit-.

I don't think this is the issue. The call to -st_local()- would need
to provide a name for a local macro and a string to put it, and at
least one of those is wrong. A variable being string rather than
numeric wouldn't cause either problem and in any case -bfit- wouldn't
expect string variables.
