So, whats a valid comparison group then in your opinion, taking into
account the timing of the training? Or should I neglect that information
about the timing completing when matching?

The strength of matching is that it prevents you from comparing groups
that cannot be compared. You try to circumvent that strength, which is
not a good idea.
