It is a Very Bad Idea to put user-written routines in the Stata updates and/or Stata base directories as has been done here. User-written routines belong in PLUS or PERSONAL, not in BASE nor UPDATES. The latter directories are reserved for components of official Stata. If your ranktest had only been installed in PLUS (or PERSONAL), you would not be having this problem.
