Esther, The Stata behavior you describe is highly abnormal. I would contact Stata tech support and/or verify that your installation is complete as detailed here: http://www.stata.com/support/installation-qualification/ As far as getting outreg2 to work, can you physically see the files if you're to go to the folder C:\Program Files\Stata11\ado\base\o? Is outreg2.ado there? The other issue that can go wrong is that Stata may not check the directory where you put the outreg2 files, so it does not know the files are there. When you type "adopath", does "C:\Program Files\Stata11\ado\base\" show up on the list? If not, you can add it by typing "adopath + C:\Program Files\Stata11\ado\base\".
