Repeat the exercise with admin privileges? I have used Windows exclusively
over the years, and on different machines, and this problem has never bitten
me...

That is a Windows problem. You do not have the proper privileges over
the c:/ado directory and its subdirectories. I don't use Windows, so I
don't know how this happens or how to fix it. Perhaps some others on
the list do.
