The text that you quote does not promise any datasets, does it?
It is also apparent that there is no zip-file on the website for manual download, while other books do have one. See, for instance, http://www.stata-press.com/data/itsp.html. So my guess is that there is no central location from which you can download the files...

Betreff: st: Are the datasets in "Meta-Analysis in Stata" available for download?
Both Jonathan's book and the Stata press download site contain
information about downloading the command files, viz...
"You can download all the user-written commands described in the
Meta-Analysis in Stata: An Updated Collection from the Stata Journal
from within Stata. Download the installation command by using the net
command. At the Stata prompt, type
. net from http://www.stata-press.com/data/mais
. net install mais
After installing this file, type spinst_mais to obtain all the
user-written commands discussed in this collection, except for those
commands listed in the appendix. Instructions on how to obtain those
commands are given in the appendix. If there are any error messages
after typing spinst_mais, follow the instructions at the bottom of the
output to complete the download."
But this does not seem to load the data sets. Are these available?
Maybe I'm just being obtuse.
Many thanks.
Joseph
