This is strange to me, too, Kit.
I am running OS X 10.5.4. I have 8 GB of RAM, with >4GB noted as free
in the activity monitor.
I can't allocate more than 1625m.
The MAC activity monitor for Stata indicates (after allocating 1625m):
46.82 MB real memory and 2.18 GB virtual memory. Stata indicates
memory used is 1,711,546,898.
