Actually, I am not sure the warning message matters. I reran your
earlier example, this time using nice short variable names that did
not trigger a warning, and I got the exact same results as I did with
the longer names. So, despite the warning, I think vars are indeed
getting set at 0.
If this is mission critical stuff though, I guess i would want to do
more checking first to be sure.
