st: Pasting multiple command onto command line in Stata 8

Are there any work-arounds that allow users to do this in Stata 8, as
they can in the early versions of Stata 9.

(I remember reading here that this has been disabled in the latest
Stata 9 update, but I don't know what the situation is with Stata 8.)
