I would try -xtmixed-, because of the multilevel nature of your data.
If you need something more complex, yet still multilevel, I would try
-gllamm-.

Thoughts on doing the following analysis on panel data in Stata would be
greatly appreciated.

The research question is does the dependent variable, which is
continuous, approximately normally dilstributed, change over time
measured at one to eight points in time. One measurement per time point
is made on a set of subjects (e.g pupils) nested or grouped by
classrooms, which are nested or grouped within schools.

Is xtreg, xtgee, or another analysis within Stata most appropriate?
How should the repeat measures (over time) be handled?
How should the nesting or grouping be handled?
