When I typed,
tsset code year
I got the following error:
repeated time values in sample
r(451);
-tsset- is a time series command, while my data is longitudinal
data, so the above error was shown, I suspect.

Or, does this message imply -year- contasins some irregular
values?
I'd appreciate additional advice.

As you suggest, I'd have dropped all missings on -dept-.
before creating new variables.
