I think there is a workaround to this. Have a look at the following 
posting by Dimitri Masterov. Instead of launching Stata directly from 
the editor, he uses a script that first checks if Stata is already running.

Eva Poen and a Friedrich Huebler have written similar scripts that allow 
you to run selected lines of a do-file, another feature of Stata's 
doedit ...
