Dear Statalisters (or perhaps StataCorp?),
Using Stata/SE 8.2 on a portable PC under Windows 2000, I work with an
external 1280x1024 monitor in the office and the laptop's own 1024x768
display at home. If at the office I place the Variables window outside the
Stata window and to the far right on the monitor, it is unavailable when I
come home and reopen Stata. I know it is there because if I put the laptop
display in virtual 1280x1024 mode, I can pan to the far right and find the
Variables window where I left it, and then drag it into sight before going
back to 1024x768 resolution.
Other software packages seem to calculate screen position of windows in such
a way that they don't disappear under the circumstances I have described. So
I wonder, is this a reproducible feature, or is my screen driver
responsible? (My screen driver, by Pivot Software Control, allows me to
rotate the image between landscape and portrait mode, appropriate for the
external monitor, which is accordingly rotatable). And in case this is Stata
related, is there a setting to prevent it from happening, or does it become
yet another request to StataCorp?
