Indeed. It's important to note that
allstat functions largely as a conduit
for job adverts and meeting or course announcements,
for which no public reply is appropriate.
As Allan perhaps will agree, the failure
of many posters of _questions_ on allstat to summarize
the answers seems to make that list fairly
ineffective for that purpose.
However, our concern here is solely
with Statalist, which has always had a principle
of replying in public. My comments were meant
to be entirely in that spirit, as I hope is clear.
