For an alternative view of how lists should be used, see eg ALLSTAT, whose
guidelines are posted on www.jiscmail.ac.uk
That list takes the view that someone who throws out a question should
receive and collate the responses, then post a summary.
Either system is workable. Personally I am most irritated by seeing an
interesting question on a list with no further information on whether it
was ever answered.
