Hi All!
This has happened twice and by the looks of it, it seems be a fairly
idiopathic occurrence.
My version of Stata 8.1 (on Windows) was producing graphs fine until I
downloaded the latest update. I clicked on the sunflower plot sample and
this is what I got:
. gr_example auto: sunflower mpg displ
-> preserve
-> sysuse auto, clear
(1978 Automobile Data)
-> sunflower mpg displ
invalid line in scheme ,
*! version 1.0.5 25aug2003
r(9999);
It seems my whole suite of graphing capabilities have been affected:
. twoway line weight length
invalid line in scheme ,
*! version 1.0.5 25aug2003
r(9999);
. histogram weight
(bin=8, start=1760, width=385)
invalid line in scheme ,
*! version 1.0.5 25aug2003
r(9999);
After I re-installed Stata (and before updating), they worked well:
. twoway line weight length
(graph produced)
. histogram weight
(graph produced)
After updating, I received the same errors.
It seems like quite a few people have been experiencing problems with
the update. Some, like Stephen, can be get rid of the problem simply by
exiting Stata. Others, like Willard, don't have a problem at all. On the
other hand, I'm experiencing a major breakdown. Of course, I'm in a
bind: update Stata and lose graphics capability or stick to Stata 8.0
without updates. I'm at a loss as to how to proceed as the error message
is particularly vexing.
PS. Thanks for the correction, Stephen, but as you can see, it wasn't
the syntax. In fact, I didn't get the usual error I was expecting. I
imagine that the error resides even before the syntax is checked,
probably when the graphics routine is called. Of course, I'm no IT
expert...
Thanks,
Elmer
