Thanks to Kit Baum, a new version of the -factext- package is now available
on SSC. Type -ssc desc factext- within Web-aware Stata to find out more.
The -factext- package is used on output data sets created by the programs
-parmest- or -parmby- (also downloadable from SSC as the -parmest-
package). These output data sets contain one observation per model
parameter for the most recently estimated model, and data on parameter
estimates, confidence limits, P-values and other parameter attributes.
-factext- is used to re-create factors (categorical variables) included in
the model using dummy variables. These dummy variables are usually created
by -xi-, by -tabulate- or by John Hendrixx's -desmat- package (also
downloadable from SSC). For instance, in the -auto- data, we might type
The -parmby- command creates a data set in memory with one obs per
parameter of a regression model containing mean mileages for levels of
-rep78-. The -factext- command will add a new variable -rep78- to this
output data set, with the appropriate value of -rep78- for each parameter.
Finally, the -graph- command will produce a plot of confidence intervals
for the differences in mean mileage between each non-reference level of
-rep78- and the reference level of 1. The new version contains the same
ado-file as before, but the help file has been updated to take account of
recent changes in -parmest-, and also to take account of the fact that Nick
Cox's -strparse- package (downloadable from SSC) has been superseded by
Nick Cox's -split- package (also downloadable from SSC).
Best wishes
Roger
