David Airey <[email protected]> reports that he has come
to a conclusion regarding the nesting structure for his
particular problem. I would like to also point him and others to
the section in "[R] anova" titled "How Stata numbers levels"
which starts on page 61 of the Version 7 manuals. Look at the
technical note on page 64 that discusses numbering schemes for
nested designs. It shows
A 1 1 1 2 2 2
B 1 2 3 1 2 3
versus
A 1 1 1 2 2 2
B 1 2 3 4 5 6
where B is nested in A. It indicates that the end results will
be the same regardless of which of the above two numbering
methods are used. You could experiment with the two numbering
schemes and verify this for yourself.
