The first Southeast Asian Stata Conference will take place on 17 July 2025 in Bangkok. There will also be an optional workshop on 18–19 July.

The conference provides an excellent platform to connect with researchers, explore innovative applications of Stata, and engage in insightful discussions. The conference will feature a presentation by a StataCorp representative.

Presentation topics may include the following

  • New community-contributed commands for model estimation, graphing, data management, results reporting, or other purposes
  • New approaches for using Stata in combination with other software
  • Innovative uses or evaluations of existing Stata commands
  • New analytic methods particularly relevant to Stata users
  • Case studies showcasing Stata's applications in various disciplines
  • Methods and resources for teaching statistics with Stata or teaching the use of Stata

Workshop: Using Stata effectively—the fundamentals

The workshop will follow a classroom training format, conducted over two days, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on the 18–19 July. Participants are required to bring their own laptops. Trial copies of Stata 19 will be provided for the duration of the workshop. Lunch and two breaks will be provided each day.

Introduction to Stata 19
  • Navigating the interface
  • Customizing preferences
  • Staying organized and keeping track of your work
  • Locating and installing community-contributed extensions

How to work in Stata 19
  • Using the menu systems and dialog boxes
  • Programming interactively with the Command window
  • Creating reproducible scripts in the Do-file Editor

Data management
  • Importing diverse datasets
  • Working in Stata’s Data Editor
  • Manipulating different data types: numeric, categorical, strings, dates and times
  • Merging datasets strategically
Statistical analysis
  • Using estimation commands to fit models and test hypotheses
  • Using postestimation commands to interpret results, make predictions, and perform post hoc comparisons
  • Handling interactions and categorical variables

Graphics
  • Creating basic plots: histograms, scatterplots, bar graphs
  • Constructing more complex visualizations
  • Combining and overlaying plots
  • Working with Stata’s Graph Editor

Reproducible reporting
  • Generating publication-quality tables
  • Writing dynamic reports that incorporate Stata results, graphics, and tables
Prerequisites
  • Basic computer skills
  • The course is taught using Stata 19. It is appropriate for those who already own Stata and for those who are considering purchasing or upgrading. There is no requirement that the user already own a Stata license.

Meghan Cain

Meghan Cain is the Assistant Director, Educational Services at StataCorp LLC. She earned her PhD in quantitative psychology from the University of Notre Dame, where her research focused on structural equation modeling, multilevel modeling, and Bayesian statistics. At Stata, she oversees the development of statistical trainings and webinars, creates videos for the Stata YouTube channel, and reviews Stata Press books.
