Should have explained better.
The current thought is to reply by directing the author to Statalist.org, not sending the posting there.
Not much effort.

I'd advise against this:

1. Posters might not take kindly to their post intended for one place
being sent to another place.

2. Why should anyone have to work at this? At a certain point, people
will just find that their emails bounce, and this will be within a few
days, so working out a strategy over what to do with the last few
posts is not worth any time.

Hello Marcello

Might a forwarding from list to the forum be one alternative to make
the audience most aware of the best option as the forum?

Some initial instructions on the forwarded link can do an invitation job.

Dear Listers,

Another week. Further dilly dallying.

Statalist.org is inviting you. The kinks have been worked out. It is a
welcoming site.

It has also attracted just about all of the traffic on Statalist, and it is
not efficient use of our time to run two lists just to accommodate the few
dawdlers, as much as we love you.

I plan to take down this list by the end of the week.
