It looks to me like aweights work if you specify version 12, e.g.
version 12: qreg y x [aw=awvar]
As to why they used to work and now don't, I don't know. I know that
Stata will sometimes drop support for something if it decides it is
not appropriate. For example, logit used to support aweights, but now
only does so under version control because it was decided that
aweights were not appropriate for logit.
I am mildly surprised that -help whatsnew- does not seem to say
anything about dropping support for aweights.

Dear Statalisters,
I am trying to use qreg with aweights but it says it's not allowed!
Only a few weeks ago, it was! In fact, Stata 13 had all weights (fw,
iw, pw, and of course aw) allowed, and I have used it myself just weeks ago.
Is this some sort of a bug? My StataIC 13 version is up to date.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
