Thanks to Kit Baum, a new package -svysampsi- is available for download from SSC (ssc describe svysampsi) -svysampsi- is an immediate command that estimates the finite population corrected sample size for a simple random survey in which the primary variable under study is dichotomous. There are many situations in which the primary variable being measured in a survey is dichotomous or binary, and thus aggregates to a proportion (e.g., the proportion of smokers in a population, the proportion of voters that view a candidate favorably, etc.). The user inputs the following: population size, the proportion of the population expected to respond positively (negatively) to the question, the margin of error (sampling error), the confidence level, and optionally, the expected response rate. -svysampsi- can be modified to accommodate more complex survey designs. Stata 11.0 is required. I hope this program will prove helpful Ariel * * For searches and help try: * http://www.stata.com/help.cgi?search * http://www.stata.com/support/faqs/resources/statalist-faq/ * http://www.ats.ucla.edu/stat/stata/
