IMHO this task would have memory requirements to fit both original and
patch data into memory. If this is possible, then I don't see a
problem implementing this. If it is not possible, then it becomes more
challenging (and more interesting). Does anybody have a formula to
compute, how much memory does standard 'merge' require?
