Thank you all for the suggestions, and I love the new meaning of the
acronym ODBC. :)
Kerry at Stata tech support was able to find me a solution. It *is*
possible to install the 64-bit Access ODBC driver on a machine where
32-bit Office is installed. (And no, installing 64-bit Office was not
an option, per our IT folks - too many complications and they won't
consider it.)

So far, this has allowed me to set up new ODBC links to my Access data
files, and 64-bit Stata already had no problems reading my SQL
databases. I haven't fully tested yet but everything I've tried has
worked so far.
Very pleased to be able to use 64-bit Stata 13 for all my tasks.
Thanks!
Dave

I've written a little program for general use in our group that seeks StatTransfer in it's obscure locations and passes the parameters for the transfer to StatTransfer batch processor st.exe. This works on 64 bit Windows and Office, 32 bit and any combination we've managed to install. In my experience, StatTransfer is pretty robust to OS issues.
