The following webpage would seem to have what you want:
http://filext.com/
In particular, at the bottom of this webpage there are links to plugins for Firefox, Google toolbar, etc.
I've just installed the Firefox plugin. It inserts a search box in the Firefox toolbar. I entered "sav" and it found 19 applications that are associated with the ".sav" extension: SPSS was one of those listed.

I recently had a data set that used a file extension that I wasn't familiar with - it was .sav which was SPSS. does anyone have a list of file extensions that we could share? I'm sure that circle systems has this and it would be a convenience to us all to have it.
