This isn't a Stata error, it is a shell error: the shell doesn't like
the parentheses (and will interpret the semi-colon as starting a new
command). You would be better to do something like this
$ stata -b do try1 93619
where try1.do calls the try1 program like this:
try1, firm(`1')
