If you explain what SPSS' CATPCA does, I should be able to tell if
-polychoricpca- does something similar. There's a variety of
understandings of what categorical PCA should be. Polychoric PCA is
one option; we discussed some others in
http://dx.doi.org/10.1111/j.1475-4991.2008.00309.x; there are yet
other methods discussed in Gifi's book.
