I don't know why you tried that syntax: you're just guessing! The help
for -xtline- implies that your syntax should replace
lp(1 solid) lw(1 medthick) lc(1 black) ///
lp(2 dash) lw(2 medthick) lc(2 black) ///
lp(3 dot) lw(3 medthick) lc(3 black)
with
plot1opts(lp(solid) lw(medthick) lc(black)) ///
plot2opts(lp(dash) lw(medthick) lc(black)) ///
plot3opts(lp(dot) lw(medthick) lc(black))
