Thanks, everyone for their input. I think I'll purchase the Stat/Transfer
program since I sometimes get SAS data sets that need conversion as well...
Peter, I had R loaded on my old machine, but I never had time to learn how
to use the program. I'd rather save that for another day and go with a
simple straightforward approach to getting me the data now...

I suspect that installing R and doing the transfer is more effecieint than
the discussion on statalist...
