st: spmat and spatreg LM testing

I'm using spmat (from sppack), and it works very well - except that it doesn't seem to give LM tests for choosing between lag and error models. First question: does anyone know if there is a command for this in spmat after all?
The older module spatreg does offer this test, but then again its handling of weight matrices is less intuitive. I can't understand how spatwmat (from the spatreg group of commands) handles a matrix loaded from a *.dta file; the *.dta file should have no identifiers in it, and just be an NxN matrix. How does it know which region is which then?
Best regards,
