I don't know how this arises, as Statalist posts are sent automatically to each member, and you can't post to Statalist without being a member. Only your local IT support can explain, I guess.
But a small issue certainly arises for digest subscribers who wish to reply to a particular posting, and the only method that they can, or more precisely should, use is to copy and paste from a digest post and/or archived post and send a new mail using that material under the same title.
Whether the archiving software, and/or various mailers, then gets the threading right is not something that bothers most people very much. Short of converting ourselves to a web forum, there is not much that can be done about it. Abolishing the digest is not something I would think of floating, as digest subscribers outnumber regular subscribers.

I do not receive emails for the Statalist (neither individually nor in
digest), yet periodically post to the list, and want to respond to posts in
such a way as they get added to the thread correctly, and do not have parts
separated from the email and added to the list as a second post.
Is there any guidance on the exact protocol to do so? (It seems that many
others have a similar issue, as I often see posts showing separately from
their thread.)
