Hi,

I wish to fit a random effect using a design matrix that specifies the
clustering (e.g. if school is the random effect, then a 1 in the
element ij would specify that students i and j are in the same school,
or something like that). It is slightly more complicated than that,
in that I actually am fitting something like a pedigree and want to
estimate the intraclass correlation due to genetic correlation between
individuals (i.e. heritability), so the design matrix is more complex
than the school example I gave. Not sure if there is something for
this in STATA?

Nicola
