Looking back, here are a few random things I wish I had made better
use of earlier:
-tempfile- and -tempvar- to avoid cluttering up my datasets and directories
applying _n and _N and other system variables
use and access saved results (e.g., r() results and e() )
-isid-
-recode-
-cond()-
and the syntax with -by- that allows sorts without indexing, e.g., by
id (year): generate something=something
