Jennifer's problem is a.s. a proxy server issue rather than an admin privilege issue. She is not getting the message that she cannot write files to her PC, but rather that her copy of Stata cannot 'see' the web. If her attempt at
update query
fails, then she should enquire how to set the proxy server settings in Stata's Preferences. This same problem occurs for almost every university in the UK, and in many government agencies in the US and abroad. I would not be surprised that Colombia's Ministry of Defense would use a proxy server.
