The -ivreg2- routine of Baum, Schaffer and Stillman and the accompanying -xtivreg2- routine of Schaffer have been updated to provide more informative error messages if the time variable used in -tsset- or -xtset- is partialled out of a regression or included in a fixed-effects model. The commands properly generated errors in those cases, but did not explain what should be done. You may access the updated versions via -ssc- or, if already installed, by -adoupdate-.
Several recent postings indicating errors with -xtivreg2- suggest that users should preferably use -adoupdate- to ensure that all three components-- -xtivreg2-, -ivreg2- and -ranktest- -- are fully updated. Getting these out of sync can cause problems.
