While I generally favour vector graphics, a dense scatterplot is an
obvious exception. This is a case where a raster conversion is very
reasonable.
Using Martin's graphic, if you: - graph export "random dots.png",
width(1950) - you will produce a graph that fits a standard letter
page width with margins (6.5 inch wide @ 300 dpi graphic (typical
printer resolution)) that is only 110,684 Bytes. (Final size will
vary depending on what graph scheme you use). This graph displays
instantly in Word whereas the vector version... well you know that
already.
