button and then Stata had no problems to update the ado-files
but could not update the executable because it was still in use.
I maintain Stata on a couple of servers. I usually do updates to Stata when there are other system software updates that require a reboot of the server. If there are none, I check to see whether there are any current Stata processes before doing an update. I'm sure the I/T staff have similar issues relating to other installed applications' updates.
