Yes, I still get a crash when "regular expression" is checked, but no crash when it isn't checked.
Re the update, I stand guilty as charged (by Kit). I haven't gotten in the habit of regularly doing an -update all-. But I promise to do so in the future before going to statalist with a question.

Here is all the information about what regular expressions are, and what they do in stata. I just tried them out. For example, if you type ^[0-9]+ in the "find what" box, it finds all expressions of a series of digits in the do file. But it only find those digit series that are at the very beginning of a line, not those that are somewhere in the middle of a line, or even those that start at a line after one space. The website above goes into much more details on regular expressions in stata.
