st: issue in data analysis

Good day stata listers,
I'm confronted to an issue, in fact I'm running a survey, on the
questionnaire  there is a lot of yes/no questions and I would like to
compute a dependent variable from those yes/no question but I don't
how ?I've heard about scoring , someone  else advised  me  to compute
a proportional dependant variable but this seem more as an intuitive
method  as I didn't- come across with any relevant literature  related
to that method,

Any hint would be highly appreciated
