Thanks to all at StataCorp for the latest Stata update (dated 11
February 2010), which I have installed, and which fixes a particularly
aggravating bug, which caused -graph twoway- to fail if there were
commas in value labels for variables in the by-option.
For instance, in the -auto- data, if I type
sysuse auto, clear
lab def foreign 0 "From the good old US of A, y'all" 1 "Alien junk"
lab val foreign foreign
scatter mpg weight, by(foreign)
then the graph is now created without any trouble. It used to fail in
the previous few versions, on account of the comma in the value label.
The new -putmata- and -getmata- commands also look as if they might be
useful, although, as the documentation makes clear, it would be bad
practice to use them in ado-files.
Best wishes
Roger
