I had an issue with -adoupdate- on Thursday as well, where it would get
stuck at the first package and complain about some open temp file. The
problem persisted even when I manually deleted the temp. -adoupdate- seems
to work just fine now...

Uli Kohler reported this problem to me on Thursday, and I reported it to
StataCorp tech support. <adoupdate> relies on a file my system produces, but
the format of that file has not changed. I am exchanging messages with
StataCorp on this matter.
As Michael indicated, whatever the problem is does not affect the use of
-ssc- to install or update individual packages: only the automated operation
of <adoupdate>.
