I'd check out Svend Juul's -lean1- and -lean2-, although I am not sure 
that they are totally black (and white). -findit juul- points to
locations. 

But remember: at most any scheme you -set- just establishes a series of
defaults. It in no way prohibits or inhibits the graph commands you
actually run from doing something different. However, the extent to
which you have to insist explicitly on particular choices will vary with
scheme.

What scheme does one specify to make graphics in pure black "ink" on a
white background?

doesn't quite do this, because it makes some lines gray rather than full
black.
