Senior Survey Methodologist for Economic Research
The Federal Reserve Bank of Boston invites applications for a Senior
Survey Methodologist for Economic Research.
JOB DESCRIPTION: Work with a team of economists and consumer payments
experts in the Research Department of the Federal Reserve Bank of
Boston to develop and implement economic surveys in support of the
Department's research and policy objectives. Initial survey
development will primarily support the work of the Emerging Payments
Research Group (EPRG). This group's objective is to study and
understand consumer and business payment behavior to help formulate
public policy for the U.S. payment system. Other survey development
will likely support the Research Center for Behavioral Economics and
Decision making and other areas of the Research Department.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES: - Provide advanced methodological
knowledge in survey design and data collection - Design and oversee
development and implementation of surveys on various aspects of
economics, especially consumer behavior and payment choice - Analyze,
interpret and document results of internal and external research
survey projects using statistical techniques - Provide methodological
and analytical consulting on survey development to other Research
department staff and clients - Candidates will be expected to write
and publish papers in professional journals that: - Document
innovations in survey methodologies - Communicate survey data
documentation, findings, and economic analysis - Some external
communication with representatives of other organizations that either
collaborate with the Bank or conduct independent surveys related to
payment behavior
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE: Masters or Ph.D. degree in relevant area
(e.g. Statistics, Mathematics, or Survey Methodology) or related field
(Economics, Business, Psychology, Political Science, Sociology, or
other applied quantitative social science discipline). At least two
years experience in survey research preferred, although new graduates
will be considered. Preference will be given to candidates with field
experience in designing, implementing, and analyzing the results of
surveys, especially surveys dealing with economics or related social
science fields. - Considerable experience in survey instrument design,
sample design, data collection, data validation and statistical
estimation - Excellent project management skills - Demonstrated
research capability - Proficiency with computer and statistical
software - Expertise in statistics and sampling theory - Excellent
oral and written communication skills - Ability to work
collaboratively, in a team environment, to accomplish Bank and
Departmental goals - Advanced understanding of economics, payments,
and/or consumer marketing experience a plus
