This has been discussed here.
Try this: http://www.stata.com/support/faqs/data/setmemory.html
Take care with this: http://www.stata.com/support/faqs/win/winmemory.html
And if you cant solve: provide us the version of stata and the operating
system you use.
Good luck

Hi all,
Would anyone help me out with a problem of analyzing a data set ,the
size of which is 296,242,984 ? When I tried to do a survey OLS
regression, stata shows error information: no more room for new
variables. The suggestion given following this is either to compress
data or to drop variables/observations or to increase memory.
The stata software I'm using is noted 1. (/m# option or -set
memory-) 10.00 MB allocated to data
2.
(/v# option or -set maxvar-) 5000 maximum variables
This data set has been compressed, and I have excluded all the
unnessasary variables. The memory I set is 1g. When I tried to
increase memory higher than 1g, stata response that is refused to
provide by system.
So, I'm not sure if therre's any way that I can analyze this data set
with stata. Is it too large for stata?
Thanks for your help!
Mandy
