Thus as of this post, all back issues of the Stata Technical Bulletin
and the Stata Journal from SJ 1(1) 2001 to SJ 5(3) 2005 are visible for
free, regardless of whether you or your institution subscribe now or
have ever subscribed in the past. You just need to able to read .pdf
over the internet. Even my phone can do that...

Thanks for the reference to the article, Nick; I didn't realize that it
was available for free, so I didn't go looking for it. (My library
doesn't subscribe to STB or SJ and, given the state budget situation, I
don't think that's going to change.)
